Festival of Food & Drink 2018 - Celebrity TV Chef Chris Bavin

Chris’ background is in the fresh produce industry, importing and selling to the wholesale markets across the UK, which he has worked in for 18 years.

In 2009, Chris and his wife Millie opened their own high street store ‘The Naked Grocer’ in Surrey. They ran it for six years, until April 2015 and won the title of ‘National Independent Retailer of the Year’ twice. The business focused on direct home and office deliveries, supplying fruit and veg boxes and wholesale catering.

It was during this time in 2013 that Chris became involved with the BBC when he was called by a researcher which eventually led to him co-presenting  Eat Well For Less? alongside Masterchef judge Greg Wallace for the past five seasons. Together, they show families across the UK how to reduce their shopping budgets without compromising on quality.

Chris also co-presented two shows for the BBC.  Food: Truth or Scare  with Gloria Hunniford, examined the facts behind headlines and offer advice about which foods are healthy or harmful. Tomorrow’s Food , hosted alongside Dara O’Brian, Angela Hartnett and Dr Shini Somara, looked at the cutting-edge technologies and produce appearing in farms, supermarkets, kitchens and restaurants around the world, and how this is transforming the way we grow, buy and eat our food.

He also presented The Truth About Meat , in which he set out to understand whether certain claims about meat, linking it to cancer and heart disease, are justified.

Chris has also been involved with numerous books tying into both Eat Well For Less and Britain’s Best Home Cook.
