CELEBRITY CHEF DAN DOHERTY
2018 has been an extremely exciting year for Dan Doherty. As part of the judging line up, alongside Mary Berry and Chris Bavin , and host Claudia Winkleman, Dan has launched BBC 1’s new flagship cookery programme, Britain’s Best Home Cook . The show focuses on the talents of ten cooks who are cooking at home for family & friends every day, with great passion, enthusiasm and skill. Dan is also delighted to be working on his third cookbook (Spring 2019), a restaurant project in New York , and having left his Chef Director role at Duck & Waffle, Dan will be announcing news of his solo project soon
Dan Doherty has established himself as one of the most prominent chefs on London’s culinary scene. Having started his career by enrolling at The Royal Academy of Culinary Arts , Dan went on to work alongside some of the top names in the business, including Herbert Berger at 1 Lombard StreetArts . Dan continued on his path as Head Chef at The Ambassador & The Empress at Victoria Park before embracing a unique opportunity to open The Old Brewery in Greenwich in 2010 . It opened with rave reviews, including Best New Restaurant (Time Out London).
Dan’s best known for his role as Executive Chef at Duck & Waffle though, London’s first 24 – 7 gourmet dining experience, which opened in 2012. During his six years at the helm of this renowned restaurant at the top of the Heron Tower in the heart of The City, his culinary achievements have been honoured with a number of prestigious awards and accolades including Tatler’s Restaurant Awards Rising Star Chef (2013) & the Evening Standard’s ‘1000 Most Influential People of 2014’.
As an author, Dan’s been fortunate enough to have written two cookbooks – Duck & Waffle: Recipes and Stories (Octopus, 2014), which featured over 100 of his signature recipes & kitchen anecdotes. Dan’s second book, Toast Hash Roast Mash (Octopus, 2016), showcases the recipes he cooks at home for family & friends – informal, easy and as indulgent as ever.
With ideas based around eggs, hash, pancakes, toast, simple dishes and sweet bakes, this is food inspired by the best a breakfast or brunch menu can offer – but to eat all day.
Dan’s a regular contributor and industry commentator for publications including Olive, delicious & BBC Good Food magazines , as well as appearing on BBC 1’s Saturday Kitchen and Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch . As a huge supporter of his industry, in 2015, Dan launched Chefs of Tomorrow , an initiative to showcase and develop the talent of aspiring young chefs in the UK. After a successful year with Chefs of Tomorrow, he founded The TMRW Project, encompassing industry talks and opportunities for those starting out in the British hospitality world to connect. Dan is also a patron of Learning for Life & in the last few years he has been raising money for the Floating Education and Health Centre project in Bangladesh, as well as cycling through India to raise money and awareness for Action Against Hunger.
